We are proud of our 100-strong workforce made up of three generations of the Richardson family, colleagues with 30 years’ service and employees of different nationalities- combining decades of experience in horticulture.
“I joined Johnsons over 20 years ago after leaving the Royal Navy where I’m proud to have served my country.
As senior amenity sales manager I’m reponsible for a dedicated sales team of four personnel whose job it is to ensure that all sales are met, as well as interact with customers and ensure orders arrive on time and to specification. I have managed the supply of many large-scale projects during my time at Johnsons including the regeneration of parks, supermarkets and business parks.”
“I am the amenity sales area manager for the North and West.
I am responsible for key customer accounts in the North East, North West and Scotland and provide day-to-day account management, as well as overseeing incoming orders and providing estimates for new projects.
I joined the business 10 years ago, having previously spent 18 years working within the hotel industry in various sales roles. Prior to joining Johnsons, I completed Level 1 and 2 RHS qualifications in Horticulture, which has contributed to my understanding of plants and the industry as a whole.
Outside of work I am the secretary for Jubilee Allotments in Knaresborough, I also create and distribute their monthly newsletter.”
“I’m an estimator and account manager for the amenity sales division.
My role as an estimator primarily involves managing the tender process on a day-to-day basis. This includes the preparation of accurate and competitive prices for submission to existing and potential customers. I also manage a portfolio of clients in the South East.
I began my career in the Nursery business after leaving school and have been part of the team for 10 years. My experience within the company spans a number of different areas, including production, cash and carry, purchasing and sales.
Over the past 10 years, I have gained international experience in the horticulture industry having undertaken placements in New Zealand, firstly with an ornamental Japanese maple grower and then with Stepping Stones Nursery. I have also worked for Combinatie Mauritz based in the Netherlands and Bylands Nurseries in Canada.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing football (I support Leeds United) and cricket. I have also driven ‘The Mountain’ from Game of Thrones to the airport!”
“As an administrator for amenity sales I provide support to the amenity account managers and co-ordinate customer enquiries, whether that’s pricing requests or availability checks.
I joined the family business in 2009 after successfully completing an NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Business Administration at King James School Sixth Form in Knaresborough.
During my time at Johnsons I have had the benefit of working across all departments within the business, which has allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of the business operations.
My proudest career and personal achievement to date is working for the successful family business.
Outside of work, I enjoy attending music concerts and learning how things are made. I am also an avid film watcher and my favourite book is The Catcher in the Rye.”
“I handle the management of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire-based customers and creating estimates is a large part of my role. This can involve liaising with a variety of departments, both internal and external.
On Saturdays I can often be found working in the cash and carry arm of Johnsons, Whixley Xpress.
I have worked for Johnsons of Whixley for four and a half years; prior to this I was involved in key account sales for Miller Food Services. In addition to my passion for gardening, I also hold a degree in business management from the University of Hull.
My proudest career and personal achievement to date is exceeding my sales target for two consecutive years.”
