We are a three-generation family business located in North Yorkshire, equidistant between York and Harrogate, with nearly 100 years’ experience in growing and supplying trees, shrubs and plants to UK-wide planting schemes.
11 members of the family have an active role within the business, from senior leadership positions and administration, to more hands-on roles on the shop floor. Our team is made up of 110 full-time staff, which increases by 50% during peak seasons.
From those in the office, on the shop floor, or on the ground tending to the plants and trees, we strive to nurture and develop all our staff. Each staff member plays an important role in the growth of the business.
Spread across five production sites covering 200 acres across North Yorkshire, we are one of the longest-established and largest commercial nursery businesses in Europe, growing and supplying millions of plants, shrubs and trees to the UK trade for almost 100 years.
With a trusted reputation, we pride ourselves on our knowledge of the sector, being able to predict developments and trends within horticulture and understanding our customers’ needs.
We supply in excess of six million plants and trees annually, which enables us to operate across three channels to market. The business operates from our headquarters in Whixley, where all operational, administration and management functions converge.
We grow and nurture a wide variety of our own stock across 200 acres of land in the Vale of York, from hedging seedlings, to extra heavy mature trees. Over 6 million plants and shrubs leave the nursery each year, delivered to suppliers across the UK.
We grow products within an agreed timescale for a wide range of horticultural projects, providing quality assured stock in bespoke sizes and forms at cost-effective prices - even outside the traditional growing season. We can accommodate bespoke customer requirements and budgets and offer advance payment options for greater discounts.
We have years of experience in providing plants and trees and shrubs for a variety of commercial projects, from retail parks to heritage sites and are a trusted solutions provider, working with contractors for public and private sector schemes across the UK.
We have our own fleet of lorries and vans, covering the length and breadth of the UK, giving us the flexibility to deliver quickly and efficiently, but with the necessary control over schedules to ensure quick turnarounds.
While we grow the majority of our stock on site, we also have a trusted supplier network in the UK and Europe, which we can tap into for ornamental, indigenous and nonindigenous stock at all stages of the season.

With our nursery being the perfect place to house our own hives, we installed an onsite apiary that currently houses up to 400,000 bees during the summer months. As bees travel up to three miles for pollen, it means all of our local sites will be used by them.
Located in the heart of Yorkshire, our nursery is surrounded by open landscapes which are home to a wide range of wildlife. Over the years we have seen many animals across our nursery, including foxes, rabbits, butterflies, red kites, sparrow halks, buzzards, oystercatchers and many more.
In keeping with the natural environment of our land, we have three ponds across our sites. To preserve wildlife these are left largely untouched and are currently home to ducks, geese, grey herons, frogs, and of course, plenty of fish.
We have made a conscious effort across our business to reduce the amount of plastic used. Along with little changes, such as using glass milk bottles, we are trialling recyclable pots with the view to rolling this out permanently.
Whether it’s working in our onsite Cash & Carry, delivery products or based in our sales team, we have several roles that are customer-facing.
Our nursery stocks products of all different sizes, from large established tress down to 2L pots. All of these need safely and securely loading into our delivery trucks that travel across the country.
We have many people working in our head office to ensure the business operates smoothly. From managing accounts and admin, through to welcoming guests at reception, we have many varied roles.
Operating out on our nursery through the year is the core of our business, and we have many people that are dedicated to providing the best quality of work. Some of the tasks include tending to plants and trees, potting and picking orders.
