Congratulations to Groundwork North East who have been instrumental in the Belmont Community Garden in the Walker area of Newcastle upon Tyne winning an Urban Green Space Award – with a little help from the local community and our plants!

Euro MP Richard Corbett visited Johnsons of Whixley on 17th April for in-depth discussions on the production difficulties created by new EU pesticide legislation which will further restrict the use of chemicals to control pests, diseases and weeds. At the meeting were John Richardson, Chairman of Johnsons of Whixley (right), Richard Corbett MEP (centre) and Dr Martin McPherson, Science Director at Stockbridge Technology Centre (left).

The Horticultural Trades Association's Greening the UK campaign - which Johnsons of Whixley emphatically supports - has received endorsement from key environmental and planning organisations following the publication of its report, 'Local Authorities' Commitment to Urban Planting'. The Environment Agency, CABE Space, the Planning Officers Society and Design for London have all expressed their backing for the campaign's aims and objectives. The campaign was also endorsed by the Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP in her foreword for the recent publication.

Some of the shrubs and trees that are very popular with landscape and garden designers and with landscape contractors are varieties or forms that are best grown outside the UK because of different climate conditions.
